The Ministry of Land, Water and Environment said that 8-Km-long sewage canals were renovated last year pursuing the goal of maintaining Asmara’s neatness. Asmara, April 7, 2012 – The Ministry of Land, Water and Environment said that 8-Km-long sewage canals were renovated last year pursuing the goal of maintaining Asmara’s neatness.
Mr. Haileab Meles, head of sewage control branch in the Ministry, explained that the renovation activities were performed in the northern and southern parts of the city. He further explained that 464 drainage channels were linked with the main sewage canal based on demands made by the residents.
The sewage control branch in the same Ministry, stated that there is a plan to double the number of bids so as to avoid delays in construction and renovation activities.
Mr. Haileab also pointed out that the branch’s future undertakings would focus on covering and renovating sewage canals and the construction of new ones in Enda-Germen, Sembel , Mihram-Chira and other residential areas. He also called on the residents to apply judicious use of toilets so as to avoid obstruction.
