Mensura, April 7, 2012 – The inhabitants of Hirkok Administrative area, Mensura sub-zone, are carrying out campaigns involving the construction of terraces and water diversion canals.
Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Osman, Administrator of Hirkok Administrative area, who explained that increased popular participation was registered in the undertaking, indicated that the activity is being done as a continuation of similar community-based endeavors on previous occasions. He also indicated that the popular activities are being carried out twice a week starting from the first week of March.
Out of the participants, Ms. Abrehet Ibrahim and Mr. Hamd Maetuq, expressed conviction that such activities would help raise agriculture production and said that they would further stimulate the initiative for the popular activities.
Mr. Adem Saleh and Mr. Mohammed Yacob, on their part, asserted that community-based activities are ensuring gratifying outcome as regards prevention of soil erosion and preservation of water in the area and that the community is demonstrating active participation in the tasks.
Meanwhile, the Administration of Mensura sub-zone disclosed that similar activities are underway in other administrative areas.
