Inhabitants of Mariet Administrative area undertake soil and water conservation activities

The inhabitants of Mariet Administrative area, Nakfa sub-zone, are undertaking soil and water conservation activities.

Nakfa, 12 April, 2012 – The inhabitants of Mariet Administrative area, Nakfa sub-zone, are undertaking soil and water conservation activities.

The inhabitants, who expressed conviction that the area has scarce underground water because of high altitude, notified that the 5-month long popular activities underway are being carried out targeting the renovation of dams and micro-dams in order to ensure sustainability of potable water supply in the area.

Mr. Ali Abdalla, Administrator of Mariet Administrative area, explained that the community is zealously engaged in the popular activities to supplement the intermittent nature of the availability of water in the locality and that enthusiastic participation featured in the campaign.

Out of the inhabitants, Mr. Saleh Osman and Ms. Amna Ibrahim, pointed out that the activities demonstrate the community’s readiness to backup the national development drive.

Mr. Mohammed Saleh, a member of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Nakfa sub-zone, commended women’s participation in the popular activities. He also indicated the community’s additional undertaking in the renovation of Mariet – Nakfa road, the result of which enabled the beginning of transport and ambulance service in the locality.
