The Ministry of Energy and Mines said that the implementation process of various energy policies adopted so as to ensure economic advancement and social services at reasonable price was effective.

Asmara, 13 April, 2012 – The Ministry of Energy and Mines said that the implementation process of various energy policies adopted so as to ensure economic advancement and social services at reasonable price was effective.

Mr. Tesfai Zecarias, director general of the Mines Department said that the policies aimed at proving wastage-free utilization of energy in order to secure sustainable advantage to the next generation. He also explained that the Government exerted a lot of effort to ensure the required energy supply, and that Hirgigo power station’s capacity has been upgraded, 40% of citizens have been beneficiaries of electricity supply, and the outreach of electrification has linked more than 522 cities, semi-urban centers and villages.

Likewise, the Energy Department indicated that substantial work has been accomplished as regards ensuring energy supply, introducing renewable energy and avoidance of energy wastage. It also indicated that endeavors are underway to ensure Hirgigo-based permanent electrification of Foro, Dekemhare, Adikeih, as well as Ginda, She’ib and large areas of Gash-Barka.

The Ministry further indicated that it is in a position to guarantee better supplies of gas and fuel. Mr. Tesfai explained that it has started docking gas imports and that the construction of depos is underway in Dekemhare, Mendefera, Keren and Barentu to facilitate distribution.
