Endeavors underway to boost school participation in Northern Red Sea region

The Education Ministry’s branch in Northern Red Sea region explained that endeavors are underway to ensure enhanced student participation vis-à-vis the Government’s investment in the education sector.

Massawa, 20 April 2012 – The Education Ministry’s branch in Northern Red Sea region explained that endeavors are underway to ensure enhanced student participation vis-à-vis the Government’s investment in the education sector.

Mr. Reshid Mohammed Osman, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, indicated that 14 elementary schools were built in 2011/2012 academic year besides the upgrading of 6 schools to junior level, targeting education opportunities for nationals living in the remote areas and leading nomadic lifestyle. In the same vein, he said that male student participation increased by about 11% and that of girls by 13%.

He further indicated that almost every sub-zone in the region has a high school and that the boarding schools of Wegriet and Tsabra have enabled students from remote areas to continue their studies.

The Education Ministry’s branch further indicated that the number of educational centers increased by 12% and that the program regarding promotion of those students affected by delay in attending elementary school has been successful. Furthermore, the branch office disclosed that computer training has been introduced in the high schools and that efforts were made to upgrade the competence of teachers.

Reports indicate that 39 kindergartens, 125 elementary schools, 52 junior schools and 11 high schools are rendering service in the region.
