Endeavors underway to prevent soil erosion in Adi-Golgol

The inhabitants of Adi-Golgol Administrative area, Dekemhare sub-zone, are engaged in major endeavors to prevent soil erosion through mobilizing financial and labor resources. Dekemhare, 20 April 2012 – The inhabitants of Adi-Golgol Administrative area, Dekemhare sub-zone, are engaged in major endeavors to prevent soil erosion through mobilizing financial and labor resources.

Mr. Mengis Woldegabir, coordinator of the popular activity, explained that river flow through the village has been causing grave erosion across its banks and that the inhabitants are working to prevent it through mobilizing 100 manpower and machinery daily.

The participants indicated that the task could be accomplished through labor volunteering and a total of 1 million Nakfa in contributions by dwellers and natives of the locality. They further indicated that 5 diversion canals have been built besides the construction of diversion walls at water spill spots.

Among the participants of the campaign, Ms. Elsa Gebretatios and Mr. Tekie Sibhatu, expressed confidence that the community itself could fully tackle the prevailing soil erosion problem.
