Blood Bank reports growing number of volunteer blood donors

The Eritrean Blood Bank said that the number of blood donors has shown marked growth, especially volunteer blood donors in line with the extensive promotional activities. It also indicated that the majority of the voluntary blood donations were made by students and that sustained endeavors are called for to achieve the desired regular number of voluntary donation.

Asmara, 23 April 2012 – The Eritrean Blood Bank said that the number of blood donors has shown marked growth, especially volunteer blood donors in line with the extensive promotional activities. It also indicated that the majority of the voluntary blood donations were made by students and that sustained endeavors are called for to achieve the desired regular number of voluntary donation.

Rahwa Woldeslasie and Henok Fitwi, expressed moral satisfaction with the blood donation they made for patient nationals. They also said that they would donate blood regularly.

Rim Mengisteab and Mr. Simon Mebrahtu, a teacher who donated blood for 17th time, on their part expressed conviction that the process doesn’t involve any side-effect and that blood donation should be practiced as a culture of reflecting goodwill to patients.

Mr. Birhan Abdelkadir, Associate Nurse in the Blood Bank, indicated that the organization is committed to contingency for blood losses due to accidents, labor and different sicknesses, and lauded people’s voluntary participation in general and that of the youth in particular. He also expressed conviction that public awareness as regards moral obligation of blood donation should be raised so as to totally avoid deaths resulting from critical blood losses.
