Anseba region: Community health volunteers register a remarkable outcome in child health care

The Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region stated that community health volunteers in the region have registered remarkable outcome in following up the health of under-5 children. Keren, 25 April 2012 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region stated that community health volunteers in the region have registered remarkable outcome in following up the health of under-5 children.

Dr. Kesetebirhan Solomon, head of the Ministry’s branch office, indicated that the involvement of community health volunteers was rated to be excellent during the assessment made for work accomplishments in the years 2010 and 2011. He further indicated that the volunteers are playing commendable role in the identification, management and prevention of various diseases, besides the achievements scored in the eradication of harmful customary practices.

Community health volunteers on their part called for people’s sensitization activities regarding awareness on the role of community health volunteers and enhancement of voluntary community health participation in remote areas. They also called on sub-zonal Administrators to strengthen relations with health personnel.

Mr. Sibhatu Beyene, Coordinator of community-based child health care, asserted that increased endeavors should to be made through involvement of community health volunteers so as to attain the desired goal as regards promotion of community health.

Reports indicate that there exist 168 active community health volunteers in the 11 sub-zones of Anseba region.
