The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region stated that remarkable task has been accomplished pertaining to the prevention of malaria infection in line with the growing public awareness regarding the disease.
Barentu, 3 May 2012 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region stated that remarkable task has been accomplished pertaining to the prevention of malaria infection in line with the growing public awareness regarding the disease.
Mr. Afwerki Araya, head of malaria control department in the branch office, explained that efforts in the prevention of malaria morbidity were sustained throughout the year, and that endeavors undertaken in infection-fragile areas as regards prevention of mosquito reproduction have been effective. He further explained that the helping hand extended by of 500 community health volunteers in the region played vital role in safeguarding the wellbeing of nationals in the region, especially those leading nomadic style of living.
Indicating that the sub-zones of Shambuko, Molqi, Laelai-Gash, Goluj, Forto-Sawa and Dige are more vulnerable to malaria morbidity, the branch office stated that a total of 185 health professionals in the region were given a special training course regarding control and treatment of malaria before the onset of the rainy season. It also pointed out that a campaign would be carried out in June to combat mosquito presence in households.
Mr. Afwerki lauded the active participation of the local inhabitants in combating malaria.
