Call made for reinforcement of community participation in reducing child and mother mortality

In a seminar it held with the residents of Keren, the Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region called for increased community participation in line with the endeavors being made to significantly reduce child and mother mortality. The branch office indicated that trained mother community health volunteers who are working in the ratio 1:10 are expected to play vital role in ensuring maternal welfare.

Keren, 07 May 2012 – In a seminar it held with the residents of Keren, the Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region called for increased community participation in line with the endeavors being made to significantly reduce child and mother mortality. The branch office indicated that trained mother community health volunteers who are working in the ratio 1:10 are expected to play vital role in ensuring maternal welfare.

The seminar which was chaired by medical professionals also featured family reproductive health, fistula and child immunization, as well as women’s active participation was noted as the key element in ensuring child and maternity health.

Mr. Tekle Tesfamariam, head of family reproductive health department in the branch office, stated that ensuring maternity health is the stepping stone to guarantee community health, and that mothers in the region should demonstrate zeal in judiciously utilizing the available maternity health facilities.

The participants called on fathers to increase their awareness in that regard and pertinent bodies to fortify endeavors targeting community sensitization.
