The inhabitants of Shaka Administrative area carry out soil and water conservation activities

The inhabitants of Shaka Administrative area, Asmat sub-zone, have been engaged in soil and water conservation activities since mid-April. The inhabitants, who are mobilizing more than 300 manpower daily, indicated that they have accomplished significant tasks in the preparation of farmlands and restoration of eroded areas.

Asmat, 07 May 2012 – The inhabitants of Shaka Administrative area, Asmat sub-zone, have been engaged in soil and water conservation activities since mid-April. The inhabitants, who are mobilizing more than 300 manpower daily, indicated that they have accomplished significant tasks in the preparation of farmlands and restoration of eroded areas.

One of the participants, Mr. Ali Abdalla, said that the community has acquired considerable experience in boosting agricultural production through soil and water conservation, and that active popular participation has been witnessed in the task.

Ms. Kedija Ibrahim expressed conviction that the team-based endeavors would result in improvement of their livelihood, and that she would continue to be engaged in such undertakings.

Mr. Osman Idris, from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, indicated that the ongoing activity by the local inhabitants is a demonstration of the sufficient experience they have already acquired in soil and water conservation.

Mr. Humed Mohammed, Administrator of the locality, commended the community’s initiative, and called on them to sustain the impact of such undertakings.
