Participation in education rose nationwide over the past 5 years: Ministry

The Ministry of Education said that participation in education has grown significantly nationwide over the past 5 years as a result of the continued government endeavors to expand educational facilities.

Asmara, 9 May 2012 – The Ministry of Education said that participation in education has grown significantly nationwide over the past 5 years as a result of the continued government endeavors to expand educational facilities.

Mr. Saleh Mahmoud, head of elementary and junior curriculum office in the Ministry, indicated that a growth of 9.4% and 13.3% has been registered in student registration and that the number of schools in education rose up to secondary level. He further explained that female participation in education has grown significantly in remote areas in line with the community-based sensitization programs. More endeavors should be exerted until the achievement of the set goal, he added.

The Ministry pointed out that the number of teachers increased by 31% in accordance with the efforts exerted to meet the growing demand for educational opportunity, and that distance learning has effectively facilitated the goal of reinforcing teachers’ capacity.
