Tesenei, 10 May, 2012 – A total of 30 farmers in Arbatasher engaged in fruits and vegetables production along the banks of Gash River said that they are exerting endeavors to meet demand in the locality. They also said that horticultural activities being carried out in the area have already borne promising outcome.

One of the farmers, Mr. Hamad Mussa, explained that the agricultural area is rich in soil and underground water content, and that they are cultivating green feed.

Mr. Zerai Habtetsion on his part indicated that the majority of the farmers have been cultivating similar fruits and vegetables at the same time, the impact of which is giving rise to lower income. He further called on the concerned experts in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office to hold discussion with the farmers and pointed out that they are engaged in animal husbandry. As a result milk production has increased in the locality in line with the available green feed harvest.

Mr. Idris Mahmoud, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Tesenei sub-zone, noted that the harvest of the farmers is being sold even in markets here in Asmara.
