The Health Ministry’s branch in the Northern Red Sea region said that child immunization has increased by 10% in the region in line with the growing popular awareness in this regard. Accordingly, it indicated that child immunization coverage in the region, which stood at 51% in 2009, has presently reached 61% by the end of 2011. Massawa, 12 May, 2012 – The Health Ministry’s branch in the Northern Red Sea region said that child immunization has increased by 10% in the region in line with the growing popular awareness in this regard. Accordingly, it indicated that child immunization coverage in the region, which stood at 51% in 2009, has presently reached 61% by the end of 2011.
Mr. Solomon Kelifa, from the branch office, explained that such accomplishment was facilitated by cars and all types of traditional transportation to ensure better outreach of inhabitants leading nomadic style of living in the region. Indicating that child mortality rate has accordingly declined, he commended the active participation of health personnel, local Administration offices and other institutions, besides the sense of receptivity demonstrated by the community in the sensitization process.
Ms. Meryem Mohammed Adem and Ms. Samrawit Woldegabir expressed conviction that the task of immunization has been playing significant role in safeguarding child health in the area.
Mr. Ibrahim Hassen and Mr. Amanuel Kesete on their part called for active involvement of fathers towards the realization of even parent commitment in the process of child immunization.
Mr. Solomon called for increased promotional activities towards raising popular awareness, and thereby ensure the desired outcome as regards child health.
