Southern Red Sea region: Community-based style of living described basis for the effectiveness of development programs

The Southern Red Sea regional Administration asserted that community-based style of living is a cherished basis for the effectiveness of development and food security programs being implemented in the region.

Assab, 15 May, 2012 – The Southern Red Sea regional Administration asserted that community-based style of living is a cherished basis for the effectiveness of development and food security programs being implemented in the region.

Mr. Ali Mahmoud, Administrator of the region, stated in a meeting he held with elders and community representatives of Southern Denkalia sub-zone that endeavors are being exerted pursuing the goal of promoting modern method of fishing through training and equipping traditional fishers. He also called on inhabitants leading itinerant style of living to settle in places where social service facilities have been made available by the Government.

The regional Administration further indicated that training courses are being given to relocated citizens in Alalie with a view to enabling them become beneficiaries of marine resources in their environs, and that endeavors are being made to provide them with boats and fishing tools.

The participants on their part expressed resolve to back up the national development program.
