Popular campaign underway to hinder overpopulation of Prosopif tree in Sitmo Administrative area

The Administration of Sitmo Administrative area said that the inhabitants are engaged in a popular campaign to hinder the extensive prevalence of Prosopif tree in the area. Tesenei, 16 May 2012 – The Administration of Sitmo Administrative area said that the inhabitants are engaged in a popular campaign to hinder the extensive prevalence of Prosopif tree in the area.

Mr. Abdu Ibrahim, Administrator of the locality, explained that the overpopulated status of the tree between Sitmo and Arbaetasher areas has been causing hindrance in the tilling of the vast farmlands in the area, and that the inhabitants have been undertaking such popular activities during the past couple of years just before the onset of the rainy season.

The Administration of the locality stated that a total of 400 individuals are participating in the campaign, and that farmlands overwhelmed by the tree are being cleared on priority basis.

One of the participants, Mr. Mohammed Ali Ibrahim, said that considerable volume of crop harvest is obtained from the farmlands in Sitmo as the diversion canal of Aligider largely crosses through the area.

Mr. Abdu stated that vast farming activities have been planned for implementation in this year’s rainy season, and called on the local inhabitants to work hard for the realization of the set goal.
