Massawa, May 25 2012 – The residents of Massawa city said that the enthusiastic Independence Day celebrations attest to the Eritrean people’s harmony and the top value they attach to freedom. They further underlined that the event is an occasion for renewing the pledge to back up national development endeavors.

Among the residents of the port city Rev. Gurja Kiflu and Ms. Amna Yasin expressed conviction that there is nothing else which compares to the value of Independence. Mr. Ibrahim Husein Mentai and Ms. Saba Zerai equally expressed conviction that the Eritrean people would always hold in high esteem compatriots who laid down their lives for independence.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Fana Tesfamariam, Mayor of Massawa, explained that the norm of hard work and sustained development endeavors are the basis for genuine liberty, and that concrete achievements were registered by the Eritrean people and their leadership in different economic sectors, especially that of achieving food security.

Mr. Mahmoud Ibrahim, head of the PFDJ branch in Massawa sub-zone, equally noted that the clear vision of the Eritrean government as regards national development has enabled the Homeland to attain promising economic growth on the basis of hard work.
