First Lady of Uganda holds talks with NUEW heads

The Hon. Janet K. Museveni, First Lady of Uganda, and the NUEW heads held talks on May 30 regarding exchange of mutual experience of both sides pertaining to women’s issues.

Asmara, 31 May 2012 – The Hon. Janet K. Museveni, First Lady of Uganda, and the NUEW heads held talks on May 30 regarding exchange of mutual experience of both sides pertaining to women’s issues.

On the occasion, the Ugandan First Lady watched documentary movie portraying the role of Eritrean women in the armed struggle for independence. Ms. Leul Gebreab, Chairperson of the NUEW, gave extensive briefings as regards political, development and social role of Eritrean women in the days of the armed struggle.

The Hon. Janet Museveni on her part voiced deep impression with the vital role of Eritrean women in the struggle for independence. She further indicated that the Ugandan women hold similar views with Eritrean counterparts, and that endeavors are being exerted in her country to abolish social and health problems women face.

Reports indicated that the Ugandan First Lady made a tour of Zaer textile factory in the company of the NUEW Chairperson.

The Hon. Janet asserted that the development achievements Eritrea has registered are of vital significance to her country. She also expressed desire for joint ventures between the two countries pertaining women-related tasks.
