The Administration of Gash-Barka region provided media personnel there with still and video cameras worth 3 million Nakfa with a view to expanding media coverage in the region.

Barentu, 1 June 2012 – The Administration of Gash-Barka region provided media personnel there with still and video cameras worth 3 million Nakfa with a view to expanding media coverage in the region.

During the hand over, Mr. Mohammed Hamd, the regional Administrator, expressed deep satisfaction with the substantial investments the Ministry of Information is making and the progress being made. He further voiced conviction that the regional Administrations should extend a helping hand to the Ministry, and that reporters in the region are expected to ensure effective fulfillment of their task.

Reporters in all corners of the region have been adequately equipped and thus are expected to demonstrate greater accomplishment as regards productivity vis-à-vis information collecting, documenting and disseminating, the regional Administrator added. He also called on the reporters to judiciously use the equipments at their disposal and on the sub-zonal Administrators to collaborate with the media personnel.

Explaining that 14 members of the Ministry’s branch office in the region have received training in the fundamentals of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mr. Akal Mebrahtu, head of the Eritrean News Agency’s branch in the region, said that cameras have already been distributed to all media personnel there. He also indicated that it was possible to make extensive media coverage in the region during the 21st Independence Day anniversary celebrations thanks to the availability of such equipments.

The equipments comprise 13 still cameras and 13 video cameras.
