Reserved land in Dubarwa sub-zone showing progress

Indigenous trees in the reserved land in Dubarwa sub-zone are reviving and are in good condition, agricultural experts indicated.  Dubarwa, 3 June 2012- Indigenous trees in the reserved land in Dubarwa sub-zone are reviving and are in good condition, agricultural experts indicated.

Mr. Girmai Tesfamichael, irrigation expert, explained that in 2011 more than 1980 and 2,240 hectares of land have been reserved on permanent and temporary bases respectively and that the indigenous trees are in good condition.

He further said that in 2011 more than 190 thousand seedlings have been planted and there is future program to reserve 585 hectares of land on the Mereb River banks.

Sergeant Tesfazgi Teklemariam, member of the forestry guard, said that the indigenous and eucalyptus trees are in good condition and called for more forestry guards for the area is vast difficult to control from animals.

Documents of the Ministry of Agriculture branch of the sub-zone indicate that there is 2311 permanent and 5,735 temporary hectares of reserved land in the Dubarwa sub-zone.
