122 students graduate from College of Marine Science and Technology

A total of 122 students graduated yesterday from the College of Marine Science and Technology in the disciplines of sea farming, fishery resources and marine biotechnology. The number of students who graduated with degree stood at 50 while that of the diploma holders is 72. Massawa, 9 June 2012 – A total of 122 students graduated yesterday from the College of Marine Science and Technology in the disciplines of sea farming, fishery resources and marine biotechnology. Speaking during the commencement ceremony, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, Minister of Marine Resources, pointed out that the Government has been investing heavily in the education sector with a view to enhancing the nation’s human capital, and that the impact of such investment has been witnessed in the achievements made in national development programs. He also called on the graduates to serve the citizenry with dedication.

Dr. Zekaria Abdelkerim, Dean of the college, said that it has been sending graduate assistants abroad for postgraduate studies in line with the purpose of increasing the number of lecturers, and that construction of additional laboratories, as well as the beginning of postgraduate studies would be subsequent tasks of the college as of next year.

The representative of the graduating batch further stated that the achievement the group has made is a fruit of the Government’s investment in the sector, and that they would work hard to translate into deeds the knowledge they have acquired.

Out of the graduates, Genet Michael, Bula Sultan, Nur Idris and Musie Giovanni expressed conviction that the free educational services being given in the country are a demonstration of the Government’s deep conviction of ensuring social justice. They further noted that students in various countries face the problem of pursuing their studies due to heavy tuition fees.
