Asmara, 11 June 2012 – A number of nationals engaged in horticultural activities said that they are exerting increased endeavors to ensure higher production. Indicating that there exist various horticulture-conducive areas in the country, the farmers called for further investment in the sector, which they described has so far not been fully exploited.
Mr. Hadish Wubet, who has been engaged in horticulture for 15 years, asserted that the task is highly rewarding although it involves serious follow up. He further explained that those engaged in the activity are moving their beehives in places between Arbe-Rebu’e and Gahtelai in accordance with the availability of flowers in the respective seasons.
Provided a fair amount of horticulture varieties blossom in spring, it is possible to obtain 5 to 6 harvests a year, he added.
Ms. Selamawit Shishai equally asserted that adequate honey could be harvested only when a suitable area is selected and intensive care of bees is applied.
The farmers also expressed readiness to work on the basis of associations.
