Anseba region: call made for increased popular participation in development programs

The Administration of Anseba region called on the local inhabitants to mount community-based participation in all development programs. It made the call during meetings conducted in various places.

Keren, 12 June 2012 – The Administration of Anseba region called on the local inhabitants to mount community-based participation in all development programs. It made the call during meetings conducted in various places.

In meetings he conducted with the inhabitants of the Administrative areas of Wasdemba, Deki-Andu, Dembe-Habtetsion and Hadish-Adi, Mr. Gergis Girmai, the regional Administrator, commended the initiative they took in renovating the road from Elabered to their respective villages. He further explained that the regional Administration is ready to encourage such popular initiatives.

Reports indicate that the first phase of the undertaking, which has already been accomplished, covers renovation of the road between Elabered and Hadish-Adi, and that the second phase would extend the road renovation up to Bir’ona.

Mr. Gergis also called on the local inhabitants to build roads from the main road being renovated to their respective villages.

Mr. Tesfai Negasi, chairman of development committee in the villages of Anseba-Lemecheli area, explained that the natives residing inside the country and abroad donated a total of 660,000 Nakfa for the implementation of the task.

Stating that 24-hour electricity supply, potable water supply and educational facilities up to high school level, health institutions and a reliable basis for irrigation farming have been laid in the locality, the participants expressed readiness to make prudent use of them.
