Massawa, 15 June 2012 – Owners of small and big businesses in the port city of Massawa contributed a total of 500,000 Nakfa honoring the trust of martyrs. They made the contribution in connection with Martyrs Day on June 20.

Father Perotazio Delphini who contributed 20,000 Nakfa on behalf of the Catholic Church of Massawa, and Mr. Tesfagabir Gebreamlak who donated the same amount, said that the contribution they made does not equal the bequest of the martyrs but is meant to create fulfillment of conscience.

Mr. Tesfalidet Gebremichael and Mr. Hamd Gebr, who contributed 20,000 Nakfa each, similarly expressed conviction that supporting the families of martyrs is a national obligation, and that the Eritrean people’s honor to the martyrs is an ever-sparkling national value.

Honoring the citizens who sacrificed their lives for their people’s wellbeing and backing their families in connection with June 20 involves deep moral satisfaction. And Martyrs Day is an occasion when nationals should renew their pledge to safeguard the nation’s dignity, Mr. Ahmed Hamd added.

Commending the initiative taken by the business people, Ms. Fana Tesfamariam, Mayor of Massawa, further called on them to mount their participation in such popular task.
