Framers in Mogae River area undertake soil and water conservation campaign

The framers in Mogae River area, Afabet sub-zone, are engaged in soil and water conservation campaign with a view to restoring eroded farmland and avoiding the causes in collaboration with the Northern Red Sea regional Administration. Reports indicated that a total of 450 meters-long water diversion canal has been constructed in 8 areas, and that preventive walls are being concreted, while popular undertakings are at the same time being made to collect stones. Afabet, 18 June 2012 – The framers in Mogae River area, Afabet sub-zone, are engaged in soil and water conservation campaign with a view to restoring eroded farmland and avoiding the causes in collaboration with the Northern Red Sea regional Administration. Reports indicated that a total of 450 meters-long water diversion canal has been constructed in 8 areas, and that preventive walls are being concreted, while popular undertakings are at the same time being made to collect stones.

Mr. Idris Mohammed, Administrator of Kubkub Administrative area, pointed out that the farmers there have been vulnerable to increased riverbank erosion, but now thanks to the Government’s collaboration, they have become hopeful of witnessing an end to the problem.

Out of the farmers, Ms. Figuret Mohammed and Mr. Mahmoud Dawod, expressed conviction that they have attained reliable status as regards soil and water conservation, and stated that the regional Administration has provided them with select seeds.

Mr. Hurui Yohanes, soil and water conservation expert in the sub-zone, said on his part that a total of 400 manpower is daily participating in the task, and that the fulfillment of the undertaking would save 55 hectares from erosion.
