Martyrs Day commemorated with enthusiasm in the Southern and Gash-Barka regions

Martyrs Day was commemorated with enthusiasm in the Southern and Gash-Barka regions, reports indicated. A variety of popular campaigns were also carried out in Patriots Cemeteries, besides the accomplishment of popular candle light parades and popular trek. Mendefera/ Barentu 21 June 2012 – Martyrs Day was commemorated with enthusiasm in the Southern and Gash-Barka regions, reports indicated. A variety of popular campaigns were also carried out in Patriots Cemeteries, besides the accomplishment of popular candle light parades and popular trek.

During the commemoration in Barentu, Mr. Franco Kubaba, Administrator of Barntu sub-zone, called on the local inhabitants to raise participation in national development programs as an earnest gesture of honoring the trust of fallen heroes. A number of religious leaders also took part in the event that featured various poems and songs.

Mr. Mohammed Hamd, Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Maj. General Haile Samuel, Commander of the Western Command, Mr. Rezene Adonai, Secretary of the PFDJ regional branch office, Mr. Franco Kubaba, Administrator of Barntu sub-zone, and Ms. Alem Belai, Chairperson of the NUEW regional branch, laid wreath at the Martyrs cemetery.

Similarly, Martyrs Day was commemorated with patriotic zeal in Senafe city through mass trek. Mr. Berhane Mengesha, Administrator of Senafe sub-zone, said that the active preparation of children and youths in the event is a bridge for bequeathing national values to future generations.

Different cultural shows highlighting greater event were also presented by EDF and NUEW cultural troupes.
