Martyrs Day was commemorated with enthusiasm in the Sudanese cities of Gedarif, Kessala, Port Sudan and Khartoum, as well as the US cities of Atlanta, Columbus, Ohio and Seattle, the German cities of Cologne and Heidelberg, the Dutch city of Rotterdam, South Africa, Zambia, Angola and Botswana. The Eritrean community members in the respective cities lit candles and made presentation of artistic works and plantation of tree seedlings, as well as prayer services in connection with the Day.
Asmara, 22 June 2012 – Martyrs Day was commemorated with enthusiasm in the Sudanese cities of Gedarif, Kessala, Port Sudan and Khartoum, as well as the US cities of Atlanta, Columbus, Ohio and Seattle, the German cities of Cologne and Heidelberg, the Dutch city of Rotterdam, South Africa, Zambia, Angola and Botswana. The Eritrean community members in the respective cities lit candles and made presentation of artistic works and plantation of tree seedlings, as well as prayer services in connection with the Day.
The Eritrean community members in Khartoum reaffirmed readiness to translate into deeds their pledge to honor the trust of fallen heroes. A total of 50,700 Nakfa was contributed by the community members during the commemorative event in South Africa. The list of names as regards family members of fallen heroes was also presented to those who pledged to consistently support them, besides the issuance of invoices of payments made so far.
Stating that the Day is an opportune moment in which the citizenry reiterate their pledge to honor the trust of martyrs through reinforcing participation in national development programs, the citizens in Rotterdam pledged to support more families of martyrs, and extended 6,500 Euros in support of the Government’s benefit scheme payment.
The Eritrean community members in the US cities of Atlanta, Columbus and Seattle said that they would back up the national development drive and strive to bequeath national values to future generations in earnest gesture of honoring the trust of fallen heroes.
Likewise, the Eritrean community in the German cities of Cologne and Heidelberg carried out trek in connection with the Day. Mr. Idris Ahmed, chairman of the Eritrean community in Cologne city, said: “The Eritrean people could attain the registered level of development thanks to the prevailing harmony among them and the clear vision of the leadership, and that citizens in Germany would as ever back up development undertakings in the Homeland,”
