The regional branch office of the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment in the Northern Red Sea region said that control procedure is being implemented as regards land plots distributed over the past 21 years. Massawa, 22 June 2012 – The regional branch office of the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment in the Northern Red Sea region said that control procedure is being implemented as regards land plots distributed over the past 21 years.
Explaining that a number of land plots were distributed by regional Administrations before the establishment of the Ministry, Mr. Tsehaye Siele, head of the branch office, pointed out that more than 10,000 land plots have been distributed in the sub-zones of Nakfa, Krora, Afabet, She’ib, Ginda and Massawa for residential and business purpose. A total of 4,000 tiesa land plots have also been distributed in Gedged, Gi’eneb, Hirgigo and Hitmlo, he added.
The branch office also indicated that land use information system has been introduced, and that the information about 4,000 land plots has so far been recorded in a database. It further indicated that control mechanism is being applied for sewage systems in collaboration with pertinent bodies as regards ensuring environmental hygiene along the coastline and islands.
Mr. Tsehaye explained that research has been conducted on more than 1,500 concession farms in collaboration with the Eritrean Cartography Center to improve management in that regard. He further called on the regional inhabitants to practice appropriate use of land taking into account that it is not for sale under any circumstance.
