The inhabitants of Mezba, Senafe sub-zone, are engaged in popular afforestation tasks as part of endeavors they have been exerting in this regard since 2008. Among the inhabitants, Mr. Habtom Aradom and Ms. Tsige Girmai, expressed conviction that barren lands in the area have been covered by trees thanks to the sustained endeavor on the part of the local inhabitants regarding afforestation. They further pointed out that the community is playing significant role in taking care of enclosures, besides the work of paid guards.
Stating that 17,000 trees that were planted through popular campaign have flourished well on 7 hectares, Mr. Siyum Araya, Administrator of Mezba Administrative area, explained that the latest purpose of the undertaking entails the plantation of 7,000 tree seedlings. He also indicated that the local inhabitants have built micro-dam and water catchment in Adetal-Hinttlo and Berakit-Fiyasha respectively through mobilizing labor force and about 250,000 Nakfa.
Mr. Girmai Siyum, wildlife and forestry expert in the sub-zone, disclosed on his part that 1000 hectare-wide and well-preserved enclosures exist in the areas of Rokoyto, Tisha, Mai-Goduf, Cheguaro-AdiHisho, Adebagie and Nedwe.
