Number of health institutions in Northern Red Sea grows nine fold

The Health Ministry’s branch in the Northern Red Sea region indicated that the number of health institutions there grew nine fold over the past 20 years, and that the inhabitants of the region are in a position of obtaining reliable medical care. Massawa, 2 July 2012 – The Health Ministry’s branch in the Northern Red Sea region indicated that the number of health institutions there grew nine fold over the past 20 years, and that the inhabitants of the region are in a position of obtaining reliable medical care.

Stating that the number of health institutions in the region which stood at 5 before two decades has now risen to 50, Dr. Yohanes Tekeste, head of the branch office, pointed out that surgical and emergency rooms are being built in Nakfa and Afabet hospitals respectively. Preparation has also been made to build health stations in Krora, Umle and Nefasit. He further explained that considerable accomplishments have been made as regards prevention of infections resulting from communicable diseases, and that integrated endeavors exerted to eradicate polio and measles have borne positive outcome.

Reports indicate that antenatal care and maternity service in general have risen significantly, while mother and child mortality rate has declined to 91 per thousand.
