Prisoners who have been attending academic and training courses at Sembel Rehabilitation and Prison center graduated yesterday.

Asmara, 11 July 2012 – Prisoners who have been attending academic and training courses at Sembel Rehabilitation and Prison center graduated yesterday.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Maj. Mehari Andebirhan, commander of the Rehabilitation and Prison center, indicated that it is exerting endeavors to enhance the production capacity of prisoners through providing them with various training and academic training. Lt. Tesfahiwet Gebrai, head of the center’s administration section, said on his part that the training of prisoners is essential in changing their state of mind for the better and putting them on the right track of living.

The training courses comprise accounting, basic computer application programs, literature, handcrafts and English, as well as the Arabic language, besides the regular academic education conducted from 1st to 12th grade. 22 prisoners could sit for the matriculation examinations this year, it added.

The graduates received certificates and displayed different creative works on the occasion.
