Eritrean community members in Italy and Germany conducted annual festivals with patriotic zeal. A number of citizens, invited guests and Italian friends took part in the festival in Italy that was conducted in the city of Milan from 13 to 15 July. It featured an art exhibition depicting pre-independence political activities of Eritrean citizens in Italy, as well as exhibitions in 10 community camps, bazaar, cultural and sports programs, besides seminar on the objective situation in the Homeland and the staging of a mouth-painted canvas by a handicapped citizen Suleiman Abdalla.
Asmara, 16 July 2012 – Eritrean community members in Italy and Germany conducted annual festivals with patriotic zeal. A number of citizens, invited guests and Italian friends took part in the festival in Italy that was conducted in the city of Milan from 13 to 15 July. It featured an art exhibition depicting pre-independence political activities of Eritrean citizens in Italy, as well as exhibitions in 10 community camps, bazaar, cultural and sports programs, besides seminar on the objective situation in the Homeland and the staging of a mouth-painted canvas by a handicapped citizen Suleiman Abdalla.
In a seminar she conducted with community members, Ms. Fawzia Hashim, Minister of Justice, gave extensive explanation regarding development accomplishments in the Homeland and the staunch resistance of citizens inside the country and abroad against anti-Eritrea agendas. She also lauded the spirit of steadfastness demonstrated by the nationals in the Diaspora, and called on the community members to enhance participation in national development programs.
Mr. Zemede Tekle, the Eritrean Ambassador to Italy, equally commended the role of the community members in organizing the festival.
Reports indicated that cultural shows staged by Soira Cultural Troupe and a cultural group formed by Eritrean and Italian artists in Rome added color to the event.
Awards were also handed to communities and individuals who won in the contests and those who made remarkable contribution in organizing the event.
Meanwhile, the Eritrean community members in Germany conducted a festival from 6 to 8 July in the German city of Giessen. Children and youth-oriented activities such as sports contests, cultural shows and art exhibitions featured in the festival.
In a seminar he conducted with the community members, Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet, Head of Economic Affairs at the PFDJ, gave extensive briefings pertaining to the objective situation in the Homeland and the Horn region, and pointed out that external conspiracies have ended up in utter failure thanks to the people’s steadfastness. The PFDJ official further explained that the objective situation in the Homeland calls for added momentum to the national development drive vis-à-vis combating hostile acts on the part of enemy quarters.
Ms. Leul Gebreab, Chairperson of the NUEW, and Prof. Asgede Hagos from the US, also conducted seminars as regards the role of Eritrean women in national development programs and the war through information media respectively.
The community members expressed readiness to enhance participation in the nation-building process.
