Mendefera, 17 July 2012 – Participants of the SWP engaged in the construction of terraces and water diversion canals, as well as afforestation in enclosures, schools and vicinities in Mendefera sub-zone are demonstrating praiseworthy performance.
Mr. Yacob Tsegai, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone, indicated that plantation of tree seedlings has been prioritized in areas where consistent follow up could be witnessed.
Mr. Mekonen Fisehaye, soil and water conservation expert in the sub-zone, on his part pointed out that more seedlings of insect-resistant trees such as Jacaranda and Neem are being planted in the area.
Mr. Daniel Tesfazgi, a teacher engaged in the task, commended the students’ active participation in the undertaking, and voiced conviction that better accomplishments would be registered through the current SWP.
Among the participants, Merhawi Habtemariam and Abdelkadir Nasser said that they are working with enthusiasm, and that the task gives high moral satisfaction.
