Asmara, 20 July 2012 – President Isaias Afwerki said that triumph of Eritrean athletes in London Olympics 2012 is the expectation of every national. Indicating that Eritrea possesses significant potential as regards sports, President Isaias called on all athletes to enhance efforts at individual level, besides the endeavors being exerted by the Sports Commission. He further stressed that participation in Olympics shoulders weighty national responsibility as its impact on the citizenry in general and youths in particular is important, and wished the athletes success.

Mr. Livingston Abraham, Maj. Abebe Zerihun and Mr. Yonas Zecarias, coaches, pointed out that the Sports Commission has made long-time endeavors as regards preparing the athletes for the London Olympics 2012, and that the athletes are ready to make Eritrea’s day in the event.

One cyclist and 11 athletes are representing Eritrea in the London Olympics due to take place 27 July to 12 August.
