Soira Award a springboard to fostering creativity and innovativeness, Say winners

The winners of Soira Award which was given for the first time in Sawa during the 5th National Youth Festival to youths who made exceptional contribution in creative and innovative works explained that the ward is a spring board to fostering youth potential in this regard. They also expressed satisfaction with gaining recognition of their works.

Asmara, 21 July 2012 – The winners of Soira Award which was given for the first time in Sawa during the 5th National Youth Festival to youths who made exceptional contribution in creative and innovative works explained that the ward is a spring board to fostering youth potential in this regard. They also expressed satisfaction with gaining recognition of their works.

Seid Mohammed who proved new mathematical theorem said that research is boundless, and that the Award is a good way to nurture such youth initiatives.

Rahel Zecarias who made remarkable contribution in reducing electricity consumption and adding portability feature to bread stoves indicated that she reduced the customary 16-Mega-Ampere system of the stove to an 8-Mega-Ampere one.

Fikadu Tesfamichael and Abraham Michael who conducted successful research activities regarding the enhancement of various cereal harvests and preparation of compost asserted that they would further engage in such pursuits.

They further pointed out that they managed to boost cereal production from 5 quintals to 20 quintals per hectare through implementing intensive soil and water conservation techniques, and that they would sustain the research ventures until they attain harvest of 40 quintals per hectare.

Soira award was bestowed for the first time this year to youths who made worthy input regarding proving new mathematical theorems, enhancement of agricultural production, scientific studies on herbal medicines, international sports, fog harvesting and reducing electricity consumption of bread stove, besides those who developed electronic dictionaries for English, Tigrinya, Arabic and Tigre languages.
