Community-based children sports activities have began in the Central region. In the opening ceremony conducted yesterday at Asmara Stadium in the presence of government officials, Sports Commission heads and parents, it was stated that such events are a good basis for nurturing competent youths in various sports domains. In the opening ceremony conducted yesterday at Asmara Stadium in the presence of government officials, Sports Commission heads and parents, it was stated that such events are a good basis for nurturing competent youths in various sports domains.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Endrias Asmerom, head of the Sports Commission’s branch in the Central region, pointed out that the event which is conducted every summer has become a basis for the development of sports in the country, and that more than 4,000 children and coaches are attending football, athletics, mountain bike and other contests.
Among the parents, Ms. Helen Tesfai expressed conviction that the role of sports is vital in nurturing healthy and vivacious children, and called on parents to back up community-based sports activities. Stating that investing on children constitutes investment on the future, Mr. Kidane Berhane called for integrated endeavors on the part of pertinent bodies and nationals in reinforcing the impact of such event.
