Effective rain-fed farming underway in Forto-Sawa sub-zone

Farmers in Forto-Sawa sub-zone said that they are carrying out effective rain-fed farming activities in line with the availability of ample tractors since the early onset of the rainy season. They further commended the active role of the tractor operators, and said that they would step up endeavors for increased harvest. Forto-Sawa, 23 July 2012 – Farmers in Forto-Sawa sub-zone said that they are carrying out effective rain-fed farming activities in line with the availability of ample tractors since the early onset of the rainy season. They further commended the active role of the tractor operators, and said that they would step up endeavors for increased harvest.

Among the farmers, Mr. Eman Hamd, Mr. Afa Haj Ali and Mr. Mohammed Haj Humed explained that they expect better production to be witnessed in the locality as they also have acquired experience from agricultural activities carried in the areas around Asheda Diversion Canal.

Mr. Melake Kesete, one of the tractor operators, expressed satisfaction with taking part in such effective national development activity after graduating from the Vocational Training Center in Sawa.

Mr. Nahom Tsehaye, Agronomy expert from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, pointed out that 19 government-owned and 5 private tractors in the locality are due to finalize the tilling of 8,000 hectares.
