The inhabitants of Alebu, Haikota sub-zone, expressed satisfaction with commendable supply of dairy products by the Eritrean Livestock Corporation which has been ensured at a reasonable price in the locality. They further indicated that the Corporation has also created ample job opportunities in the area in line with the setup of dairy processing activities. Haikota, 27 July 2012 – The inhabitants of Alebu, Haikota sub-zone, expressed satisfaction with commendable supply of dairy products by the Eritrean Livestock Corporation which has been ensured at a reasonable price in the locality. They further indicated that the Corporation has also created ample job opportunities in the area in line with the setup of dairy processing activities.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Idris Saleh and Mr. Yasin Hamd asserted that they are enjoying satisfactory supply of milk and butter from the corporation at fair price.
Pointing out that the organization is at the stage of identifying species to introduce cattle that render enough amount of milk in the given environment, Lt. Colonel Hadera Gebremedhin, head of the corporation’s branch in Gash-Barka region, said that it is daily harvesting 300 to 450 liters of milk. He further explained that the production capacity could be enhanced to 800 liters per day upon improvement of green feed supply.
Reports indicate that the regional branch of Eritrean Livestock Corporation has fattening sites in Megolo and Tekreriet.
