Gash-Barka region registering commendable soil and water conservation activities through SWP

Reports indicated that significant accomplishments have been registered as regards soil and water conservation, as well as afforestation in Gash-Barka region in line with the SWP. Barentu, 27 July 2012 – Reports indicated that significant accomplishments have been registered as regards soil and water conservation, as well as afforestation in Gash-Barka region in line with the SWP.

Among the participants, Yonas Jeremiah and Saron Mebrahtu explained that the undertaking in which active participation is being demonstrated provides a good basis for nurturing the culture of work, and called on the inhabitants to extend a helping hand in endeavors to ensure sustainability of the program’s impact. Students and the environment are equally benefitting from the SWP, Ajewa Shedin on her part asserted.

Mr. Habtom Gebreyesus, coordinator of the SWP in the region, indicated that the students are carrying out afforestation, as well as soil and water conservation activities, besides the renovation of roads and construction of water catchment walls, and that more than 2,000 students, as well as 110 agriculture experts and coordinators are taking part in the undertaking.
