A seminar was conducted in Keren city with a view to controlling drug use and distribution. A call was made on the medical personnel from a number of medical institutions and pharmacies to deliver timely reports as regards distribution of drugs and manifestation of side effects.

Keren, 2 August 2012 – A seminar was conducted in Keren city with a view to controlling drug use and distribution. A call was made on the medical personnel from a number of medical institutions and pharmacies to deliver timely reports as regards distribution of drugs and manifestation of side effects.

Mr. Eyasu Bahta, director of the National Drug and Food Management branch in the Ministry of Health, further called on the medical personnel to focus on upgrading their professional capacity, besides diligently compiling up-to-date data regarding drug side effect. Patients should also be provided with complete information about medical prescriptions, he added.

Mr. Zecarias Tesfamariam, head of the Ministry’s regulatory services, lauded the medical personnel’s active role in the prevention of communicable diseases.

Indicating that the seminar was long cherished, Dr. Kesetebirhan Solomon, medical director of the Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region, called on the participants to play vital role in the process of ensuring effective application of drug use and prescription.

The participants of the seminar put forth views regarding various issues and elected a 13-member committee that would follow up drug side effect in Keren Hospital.
