Irrigation farming activities in Dige sub-zone foster economic activities in the area

The department of economic development in the sub-zonal Administration of Dige indicated that irrigation farming undertakings in the locality have remarkably fostered economic activities.

Dige, 4 August 2012 – The department of economic development in the sub-zonal Administration of Dige indicated that irrigation farming undertakings in the locality have remarkably fostered economic activities.

Mr. Hintsa’ab Woldu, head of the department, said that individual and association-based irrigation farming activities are being carried out on a total of 1,026 hectares, and that banana, vegetables and green feed have become the center of focus. There exist 30 associations in the locality, on the basis of which farmers could sell their products in the markets in Agordat and Asmara, he added.

Mr. Hintsa’ab also pointed out that the local Administration is exerting a lot of effort to ensure consistent supply of fertilizer and pesticides, and called on the farmers to pay tax on time.
