Asmara, 4 August 2012 – The NUEW members in the Swedish city of Gothenburg extend material support to Fistula victims treated at the National Fistula Center in Mendefera. The support comprises 20 sewing machines which would be utilized in providing training to the victims.
During the handover, Ms. Akberet Tekleab, indicated that 50 Association members took the initiative of nurturing self-reliance among Fistula victims before two years, and that they would work hard to sustain the support.
Dr. Habte Hailemelekot, maternity specialist at Mendefera Regional Referral Hospital commended the initiative, and asserted that effective medical services are being rendered at the Fistula Center at government expenditure. He further noted that a building complex intended to accommodate a training center for Fistula victims is at the stage of finalization, and called on the NUEW and stakeholders to step up endeavors in organizing integrated training courses.
