Fanko inhabitants plant around 5,000 tree seedlings

The inhabitants of Fanko village, Tesenei sub-zone, planted around 5,000 tree seedlings with a view to preventing erosion in the surroundings of Fanko-Rawi Dam. They further indicated that the construction of the dam has created considerable job opportunities in the area, besides the fact that it has become a basis of nurturing the practice of popular undertaking.

Tesenei, 14 August 2012 – The inhabitants of Fanko village, Tesenei sub-zone, planted around 5,000 tree seedlings with a view to preventing erosion in the surroundings of Fanko-Rawi Dam. They further indicated that the construction of the dam has created considerable job opportunities in the area, besides the fact that it has become a basis of nurturing the practice of popular undertaking.

Among the participants of the undertaking, Ms. Nejat Ali and Mr. Mohammed Humed, said that active popular participation was witnessed in the process.

Mr. Ibrahim Haj Mohammed, Administrator of Fanko Administrative area, pointed out that such initiatives were taken earlier, and commended the inhabitants’ readiness to back up the national development drive. The construction of Fiesko, Fanko-Rawi and Fanko-Tsimue dams has promoted socio-economic activities in the locality, he added.

Mr. Tewoldebirhan Gebre, soil and water conservation expert in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Tesenei sub-zone, explained that more than 30,000 tree seedlings would be planted in the locality as a step forward towards combating soil erosion and maintaining biodiversity.
