Massawa city’s potable water supply upgraded

The Municipal Administration of the port city of Massawa said that the potable water supply facility there has been upgraded through internal capacity with a view to securing potable water for the summer season. Massawa, 14 August 2012 – The Municipal Administration of the port city of Massawa said that the potable water supply facility there has been upgraded through internal capacity with a view to securing potable water for the summer season.

Stating that instances of water shortage used to be witnessed in the port city in the months of June and July due to deteriorating underground water resources in the area, Mr. Desbele Bahta, in charge of the city’s potable water supply, indicated that 2 water wells have been dug along the banks of Yangus River, besides the installation of 7 Km-long pipes that connect with the port city’s potable water supply system. Accordingly, there is a possibility to pipe up to 1 million liters of water from each well, thereby covering 30% of the city’s demand, he elaborated.

Mr. Negasi Mehari, water supply technique head in Massawa, explained that the setting up of water pipes and electricity cables was finalized within 10 days thanks to the active role of workers and participation of city residents.
