Keren, 16 August 2012 – The Education Ministry’s branch in Keren sub-zone indicated that major development accomplishments are being registered in the locality in line with SWP, and that the undertaking involves exposure to practical knowledge and exchange of experience.
Mr. Dirar Habtemariam, head of the SWP in the branch office, indicated that 23,000 tree seedlings have been planted, besides the construction of 37 Km-long terraces and 7,000 cubic meters of water catchment walls. He further pointed out that SWP activities underway in the sub-zone also constitute the renovation of dirt roads, follow-up of previously planted tree seedlings and TV tax collection, among others.
Mr. Tekie Keleta, the Mayor of Keren, said that the impact of the SWP has become significant in the sub-zone, and lauded the active role of the participants.
The current SWP activities in Keren sub-zone have given momentum through joint venture by the Ministries of Education and Agriculture, as well as the Municipal Administration of Keren city, and that there are 1,250 participants, 564 of whom are females.
