Gash-Barka region: Call made for increased community participation in combating child and mother mortality

Indicating that considerable accomplishment has been registered in the region regarding child and mother mortality through joint venture by the Ministry and the local inhabitants, Mr. Berhane Abraha from the branch office called for further popular participation in endeavors to attain the cherished goal. He explained that the health issues which still need serious focus comprise harmful customary practices, maternal care, malaria and the like.

Stating that 70 health institutions are rendering commendable service in the region, Dr. Leul Banteyirga, head of the branch office, disclosed that the Health Ministry is about to establish maternal surgical center in Goluj, besides the endeavors being exerted to upgrade maternity service in Tesenei city.

Dr. Musie Tekie, director of Tesenei Hospital on his part pointed out that the institution would soon begin conducting mobile antenatal and postnatal service in remote areas.

Mr. Teklebirhan Gebrewold, Administrator of Tesenei sub-zone, explained that the inhabitants would enhance participation in this regard.
