Rain-fed farming activities gaining momentum in Tesenei sub-zone

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Tesenei sub-zone indicated that rain-fed farming activities are gaining momentum in line with the availability of ample tractors and timely as well as adequate rainfall. Tesenei, 27 August 2012 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Tesenei sub-zone indicated that rain-fed farming activities are gaining momentum in line with the availability of ample tractors and timely as well as adequate rainfall.

It further pointed out that the process of tilling was accomplished within 3 weeks, and that the inhabitants are currently engaged in weeding activities.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Osman Seid, Mr. Mahmoud Idris, Mr. Gebreyohanes Tesfamichael and Mr. Niguse Gaim said that they anticipate good harvest in diverse crops, and that dams and micro-dams in the area have ensured ample water reserve. They also expressed satisfaction with the availability of tractors and good distribution of rainfall in the locality.

Mr. Idris Mahmoud, head of the branch office, stated that the Ministry has also reserved adequate supply of medicines along with the desired demand for expertise in this regard.

Mr. Teklebirhan Gebrewold, Administrator of the sub-zone, disclosed that around 16 hectares have already been cultivated this summer through mobilizing 50 private and government-owned tractors, and praised the farmers for demonstrating hard work.
