4 September 2012 – Farmers in Lailai-Gash sub-zone said that they are carrying commendable rain-fed farming activities in line with the ample and well-distributed rain showers witnessed over the past 3 months.
Mr. Bereket Tewolde, Administrator of Gerenfit Administrative area, Mr. Mohammed Hajaj and Mr. Saleh Aroro respectively disclosed that farmers could plough their farmlands on time through tractors and traditional mode of farming, and that the greater portion of the cultivated crops have reached the ripening stage. They further explained that they anticipate growth in harvest.
Mr. Negasi Habtemichael, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, disclosed that more than 28,000 hectares have been cultivated in the locality, and called on the farmers to provide quick feedback to the branch office in case of any incident of pest swarm.
