Halhale Agricultural Research Center playing vital role, Say farmers in Mendefera sub-zone

Irrigation and dairy farmers in Mendefera sub-zone lauded Halhale Agricultural Research Center for the technical advice it has ensured to that end. Upon organizing an excursion to the research center, they indicated that it is witnessing an impressive progress as regards compiling data for various select cereals and fruits, and that such exposure has visibly fostered new insights in their respective domains of farming.

Mendefera, 13 September 2012 – Irrigation and dairy farmers in Mendefera sub-zone lauded Halhale Agricultural Research Center for the technical advice it has ensured to that end. Upon organizing an excursion to the research center, they indicated that it is witnessing an impressive progress as regards compiling data for various select cereals and fruits, and that such exposure has visibly fostered new insights in their respective domains of farming.

Among the farmers, Rev. Afwerki Mebrahtu and Mr. Solomon Beraki voiced satisfaction with becoming beneficiaries of the opportunities accorded by the research center, and lauded the all-round research activities being carried out there.

Mr. Abdulkadir Jihar, head of the Fruits and Vegetables Farmers Association in the sub-zone, disclosed that it has more than 750 members who undertake irrigation farming in a total of 1,300 hectares. He further explained that the

Association members have been working in collaboration with Halhale Agricultural Research Center, and that new select oil seeds made available by the center for cultivation during the current rainy season are in good state.

Mr. Zerai Siltan, forestry expert at the research center, called on the farmers to sustain following experts’ technical advice so as to boost harvest both in quality and quantity, besides refraining from cultivation of crops that are not standardized by the Ministry of Agriculture.
