Apiculture Farmers Association in Central region exerting endeavors to boost production

The Association of Apiculture Farmers in the Central region stated that it is exerting endeavors to boost honey production.

Asmara, 14 September 2012 – The Association of Apiculture Farmers in the Central region stated that it is exerting endeavors to boost honey production.

Mr. Habtemariam Tekeste, chairman of the Association, pointed out that it has been enhancing efforts to substitute traditional mode of apicultural farming with the modern one, and thereby raise output. He further explained that Association members are in a position of obtaining up to 6 harvests a year, and thus have supplied 150 to 200 quintals of honey to the local market.

Reports indicate that modern beehives and other necessary facilities are distributed to members, besides the training courses organized for them, in addition to the launching of an apicultural research center in Serejeka.

Mr. Habtemariam lauded the collaboration of the regional Administration and stakeholders with the Association.

The Association of Apiculture Farmers in the Central region which was established in 1999 has 130 members, 20% of whom are females.
